Governor’s Budget Depends on Stimulus Funding, Says Delozier
Rep. Sheryl Delozier (R-Cumberland) today issued the following statement in response to the governor’s proposed budget for the 2010-11 fiscal year:
“It’s concerning to me that the governor has proposed increasing spending by $1.2 billion, or 4 percent. As of the end of January, the Commonwealth’s revenues were down $374 million, resulting in a potential deficit of $500 million by the end of the current fiscal year on June 30. The citizens of the 88th District and throughout Pennsylvania cannot continue to sustain this rate of spending. State government must ensure that taxpayer dollars are used efficiently and effectively.
“With the economy continuing to struggle, it is clear to me and to many of my colleagues that the most responsible approach in these difficult times is to hold down spending to prevent financial impacts to working families.
“Unfortunately, his plan is to balance the budget with anticipated federal stimulus funds. Since there is no guarantee of this additional funding from the federal government, I believe it is irresponsible to depend on money the state does not have, or may not receive.
“I intend to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure the 2010-11 budget is a fiscally sound plan that is completed on time and protects the future of Pennsylvania.”
