Delozier Introduces Legislation to Save State Employees' Paychecks
7/17/2009
To avoid having thousands of state workers go without pay as the budget process continues, Rep. Sheryl Delozier (R-Cumberland) introduced legislation this week that allocates funding for these employees through the end of July.

“Those state employees who are dedicated and provide critical services to the residents of Pennsylvania should be paid for work they have completed,” said Delozier. “State employees and their families should not have their lives put on hold and be forced to worry about paying for food or housing. My legislation will ensure they receive pay for the work they performed in July.”

Delozier’s legislation would transfer $510 million from the general fund to the Department of Treasury for the purpose of paying the wages of all state employees for the month of July. Once that period expires, any unused funds will be transferred back to the general fund. This legislation does not provide funding to pay for the salaries of the governor or members of the General Assembly.

“It was important for me to protect the residents of the 88th Legislative District and around the state who come to work every day and do not deserve to be put in the middle of the state’s budget battle,” Delozier added. “It is my hope that we can come together, regardless of party, to help the thousands of residents who will be affected by receiving reduced paychecks starting today.”
