House Democrats Unanimously Vote to Ensure State Employees Only Receive Partial Paychecks
Rep. Sheryl Delozier (R-Cumberland) today issued the following statement on the unanimous vote of the House Democrats to not allow the members to consider Senate Bill 850 and amendments, which could have allowed state workers to receive full paychecks on Friday:
“House Democrats today unanimously blocked Representative Ron Marsico from bringing Senate Bill 850 to the House floor to be amended and debated, which would have kept the process moving and possibly allowed state workers to receive full paychecks on Friday.
“In a week of obstructionist moves by the House Democrats, today’s actions are a clear sign that they are out of touch with Pennsylvanians and do not have their best interests at heart. Families across the Commonwealth should be outraged that some of their elected officials are willing to put the livelihoods of thousands of residents in jeopardy to advance the governor’s tax agenda.
“Senate Bill 850 has been in the House for consideration since May, and it is an outrage that no action was taken by House Democrats to move any general appropriations bill until this week. Thousands of state employees have e-mailed and called me with frustration of not being paid for hours worked and remaining caught in the middle of the budget battle.
“I am saddened that our continuous efforts to protect the paychecks of state workers has failed, but I am committed to doing everything possible to do what is best for our residents.”
