HARRISBURG – State grant funding from the Department of Aging’s competitive grant program was awarded to two Senior Community Centers (SCCs) in the 88th Legislative District, according to Rep. Sheryl M. Delozier (R-Cumberland).
Under the grant program, Mechanicsburg Place Senior Center will receive $36,487, and West Shore Citizens Senior Center will receive $33,048. The dollars may be used to fund larger-scale projects such as capital improvements and renovations.
“SCCs play an integral role in the community for older adults,” said Delozier. “Not only do they provide a gathering place for local seniors, but SCCs also ensure seniors are supported by health services and recreation programs that keep them connected to the community. I am glad to see these dollars from the competitive grant program invested in the 88th District, and I look forward to seeing the improvements that are made as a result of the grant awards.”
There are 484 Area Agency on Aging-affiliated SCCs throughout Pennsylvania that provide a variety of offerings, such as nutritious meals, educational opportunities, transportation services, financial and insurance counseling, and exercise programs. Mechanicsburg Place and West Shore Citizens Senior Center were two of 45 SCCs to receive awards under this program.
The grant funding is appropriated by the General Assembly with proceeds from the Pennsylvania Lottery.
