Delozier Highlights Cross-Discipline Educational Opportunities at Cedar Cliff High School Aquaponics Lab
HARRISBURG – The aquaponics lab at Cedar Cliff High School is an impressive, state-of-the-art lab where students can engage in hands-on science and business education, according to Rep. Sheryl Delozier (R-Cumberland), who joined Gov. Tom Wolf on a tour of the lab today.

The lab opened at the start of the 2019-20 academic year in the school’s former planetarium. It features newer methods of farming that allow students to learn about plant propagation, food production, aquaculture technical skills and hydroponic plant growth as well as an aquarium of fish used to finish the water cycle.

“It is fascinating to see how plants can be grown quicker in what are essentially ‘water beds’ without traditional soil. The school is using the aquaponics lab for everything from science and engineering lessons to entrepreneurship and business management classes,” Delozier said.

The South Central Workforce Investment Board partnered with West Shore School District to secure a $250,000 grant from Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development for the project.
